In 2011, Harmon Solar was named “Hot Growth” Company by AZ Magazine.
Family Run, and Environmentally Friendly, Since 1975.
At Harmon Solar, we attribute our success to hard work, excellent customer service and a strong belief in what we’re doing: helping create clean, sustainable energy, one home or business at a time.

Family-run since the beginning, Harmon Solar is a leading solar solutions provider serving Phoenix and the state of Arizona. Originally Harmon Electric, Inc., Richard and Jean Harmon founded the company in 1975 with the idea of offering exceptional electric and customer service. In 2005, their daughter Julie and her husband Dan bought the company, and developed a new direction for the organization. They began offering solar solutions in 2008 under the name Harmon Solar, with Harmon Electric, Inc. completing all the installations, and recently added lighting retrofit to the company’s services. In 2010, the company enjoyed 75% increased revenue from the previous year, and doubled their number of employees.
Whether you want to purchase solar for your home or business, or take advantage of a zero-down lease, Harmon Solar can help you to move towards energy independence today.

Julie King, Chief Executive Officer
Healthy living has always been important to Julie King. After earning a dual degree in chemistry and microbiology from Northern Arizona University, Julie worked for seven years in environmental sciences for Bolin Laboratories, (later known as Legend Technical Services). In 2005, Julie’s father was looking for someone to take over his successful electrical business, and Julie and her husband jumped at the opportunity. In 2008, they created Harmon Solar, allowing Julie to return to her roots of bettering the environment. As CEO, Julie oversees human resources, benefits, licenses, and organizational structure. She is also involved in business development and political advocacy for the solar division.
To this day, Julie continues her love for health, teaching fitness classes each morning before work. She has successfully participated in national fitness competitions and has completed two triathlons. She is ready for her third.
Dan King, Chief Operations Officer
In 2008, realizing the growth potential in the solar industry, Dan began developing Harmon Electric’s solar division, Harmon Solar. In less than three years, the organization went from an idea to the catalyst for the company’s tremendous growth. After two years as COO, King more than quadrupled the company’s revenue and added more than 15 employees. Prior to Harmon, Dan spent 12 years at Enterprise Rental Car, developing his business acumen and learning the importance of fostering a strong network of contacts.
Dan graduated from Northern Arizona State University (NAU) more than two decades ago with a degree in hotel restaurant management and never imagined he would be running an electric contracting firm. Now, he can’t imagine doing anything else.
Kim L. Cramton, Director of Solar Operations
Kim L. Cramton boasts more than 18 years of project management experience in retail, medical, tenant improvement, and restaurant build outs. A goal-oriented taskmaster, Kim thrives at the challenge of completing construction projects on time and on budget. In less than 2 years with Harmon Solar, she has overseen more than 75 commercial and residential solar projects. Prior to Harmon Solar, Kim was the project manager for Weitz Construction, Inc., and vice president of construction and logistics with Cold Stone Creamery, where she was instrumental in the construction and opening of over 1,000 stores in five years.
Passionate about the changing energy landscape, this native Arizonian graduated from Phoenix College and is a member of Arizona Solar Alliance. She is one of the first graduates of Arizona Public Service’s Qualified Solar Installer program.
Gary Held, Sales and Marketing Manager
In 2010, Gary Held joined Harmon Solar as the Sales and Marketing Manager, overseeing the procurement of commercial and residential solar installation projects. His career experience began in the late 1980s as a sales representative for Bingo West. In 1994, Gary and two business partners formed GameTech International, Inc., a worldwide supplier of electronic bingo devices. The company quickly became the number one supplier, and in less than three years, Gary and his team took the company public with a 31 million dollar IPO.
After retiring from GameTech in 2001 and traveling the world for a year, Gary founded the Held Group, Inc., the parent company to a variety of businesses, all family owned and operated. Gary is an active board member for the Arizona Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce.
Josh Held, Commercial Sales Manager
A true numbers guy, Josh Held is a pro at understanding the financial needs and motivations involved in selecting a solar partner. Josh has been with Harmon Solar since 2010 and within a year of joining the company, he was promoted to Commercial Sales Manager where he’s responsible for securing new projects and developing the commercial division for the company. Josh has been responsible for securing an APS school and government inaugural project at Cottonwood Elementary, and 20 solar systems on Shell and Texaco service stations throughout Arizona, to name a few. Josh holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Northern Arizona State University.
Joshua Gamble, PV System Design Engineer
If anyone was ever tailor made for a job in the renewable energy field, it’s Joshua Gamble. He is a self-proclaimed “renewables nut” who makes his own vehicle fuel from waste vegetable oil. Joining Harmon Solar in August 2011, Joshua is NABCEP Certified PV Installer whose values and results speak for themselves. Joshua designs residential and commercial on and off grid photovoltaic systems, while ensuring quality control throughout the construction process. Joshua was responsible for many designs; including a 200kW parking structure mounted photovoltaic system for Cottonwood Elementary School.
Prior to joining Harmon Solar, Joshua worked as a test engineer intern for TUV Rheinland PTL where he checked PV modules for compliance with UL and IEC standards. Joshua earned his Bachelor’s Degree in conservation biology and a Masters Degree in alternative energy engineering from ASU.

Harmon Solar just finished installing solar solutions on two Habitat for Humanity Desert Foothills (HFHDF) homes. The company approached outside vendors to donate a portion of the equipment for the two photovoltaic systems, and Harmon covered the remainder of the parts, plus installation labor.
